Ready before it matters
DoomReady is a calm, practical plan for a nuclear emergency, a long blackout or any other disaster that keeps you at home. You answer five short questions about your household, and it builds your supply list and a readiness score out of 100 from the answers. The Ready tab then shows the next thing worth doing, and the steps for the first hour are always one tap away.
Tap "Open the first-hour steps" on the Ready tab for seven short steps that follow the official advice to get inside, stay inside and stay tuned. Your shelter spot, meeting place and out-of-area contact sit at the top once you've chosen them. The steps are part of the app, so they open with no signal at all.
The Supplies tab lists what your household needs for three days. Every amount is sized to the number of adults, children and pets, and to needs such as daily medicines or a baby. Check items off as you get them. With Pro you plan for 14 days instead, record exactly how much you have and when it expires, add your own items, get expiry reminders and share a shopping list of what's still missing.
The Map tab draws rough blast and fallout zones for a small, medium or large weapon over your city, then tells you which zone your home is in and what to do there. The zones are estimates for planning, scaled from published reference figures, and the app shows its method and sources. Pro adds custom scenarios of any size, with up to five strikes and a wind direction for the fallout.
Shelter spot ranks the places in your home the way official guidance ranks them, from a basement down to a room near the outer walls, and keeps a note of exactly where you'll go. Shelter mode is part of Pro and is for the real thing. It counts the hours since the explosion, shows how fast the fallout outside is fading and works out how many days your water and food will last.
Every household can set a meeting place near home and an out-of-area contact for free. Pro adds a job for each person, a meeting place outside your area, more contacts and notes. It also shares the plan through iCloud, so everyone sees and edits the same one, and makes a printable PDF for when phones don't work.
The Guide tab holds 24 articles written from official sources such as Ready.gov, FEMA, the CDC and GOV.UK, and every article lists the sources it draws on. Seven are free, including the first hour and your 72-hour basic kit. Pro adds the rest of the guide and Ask DoomReady, which answers questions from the guide on your device, with no connection needed.
The first-hour steps, the 3-day kit checklist, the map with its preset scenarios and your readiness score are free with no time limit. So are your shelter spot, a meeting place, an out-of-area contact and the free guide articles. DoomReady Pro adds the 14-day plan, the full family plan with iCloud sharing, shelter mode, Ask DoomReady, custom map scenarios, timed practice drills, a monthly check-in and the full guide. Pro is a monthly or yearly subscription, each with a one-week free trial for people who are eligible, or a single lifetime purchase. Family Sharing works with all three.
DoomReady never sends alerts about attacks or threats, and it doesn't predict anything. Keep your phone's emergency alerts on so official warnings reach you, and do what officials tell you where you are.
DoomReady has no advertising, analytics or tracking, and you don't need an account. What you enter stays on your device. The one exception is the family plan, which goes to iCloud only if you choose to share it.
